Optical Academy ready to provide Eye Exams and Eyewear in ALL Schools Nationally

CLIFTON, N.J., Sept. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Optical Academy is pleased to announce their continued partnership with the New York City Department of Education and Department of Health for the 2016-2017 school year.  Since 2010, Optical Academy has been the fastest growing vison care company, providing onsite eye exams and eyewear for schools, communities and companies.

“Our partnership with New York City’s Department of Education (DOE) and Health (DOH) spans more than 6 years.  In New York alone, we provide over 100,000 students with onsite eye exams and eyewear annually; helping each child grow and learn through proper eye health,” said Abby Ayoub, CEO.

New York City is one of the most fragile and diverse school systems in the US, and understands that all children need to have access to the best vision care to support its students.  Optical Academy provides onsite vision services including communication at all levels – educators, administrators, children and their parents.  Their communication is tailored to each audience, helping them understand the need for a comprehensive eye exam beyond a basic vision screening.  Ayoub said, “Screenings are basic and commonplace across our nation’s schools.  They often hurt more than help when compared to a proper eye exam because a screening cannot identify the unseen issues, such as color-blindness.  Schools are going digital and educators using smart-boards and computers means a child who is color-blind can’t see all the colors and struggles to keep pace with their peers. That’s why Optical Academy brings eye exams, eyewear and labs to the schools of New York and other states.  Having our lab onsite means children who are suffering don’t have to wait and they get them their glasses the same day without having to leave the school.  The statistics say a lot about what needs to change in our schools and New York has been at the forefront in making a positive change…”

Key Statistics:

  • 80% of what a child learns is through their eyes and before a child turns 12 years old.
  • Over 90% of children needing glasses don’t have them or even know they need them.
  • Over 25% of school aged children in the US have a severe vision problem that effects their learning and over 90% of these problems can be treated and corrected right onsite.

With the learning and expertise gained from their partnership with New York’s DOE and DOH, Optical Academy is now in conversations with similar organizations across the country. “We have changed the delivery of eye care locally.  With the help of our partners, we listened, we learned and are now positioned to make a positive change, nationwide,” said Ayoub.

CEO, FOUNDER
Optical Academy
Clifton, New Jersey

CHOSEN BECAUSE… “Abby is doing it alone and we are amazed at how far she’s gone because of her passion to serve. She mentors us daily, has created a profit share program and many incentives for us to grow individually within the company. She cares about every aspect and turns no one away if they cannot afford our services.”

abby

Abby Ayoub fell in love with the optical industry at a young age and has never left. She crossed paths with a 15-year-old girl named Kelly who had a tumor that blasted her retina, went into her brain and pushed her eye all the way left. Kelly annually failed her school’s vision test and wasn’t able to see an optometrist. That’s when Ayoub founded Optical Academy—which provides onsite exams and eyewear at school sites, work sites, and other communities.

When she served on the Council for VCA, 18 years ago, data showed that, “over 70 percent of children who fail a vision screening never get seen.” Because that remains unchanged today, Ayoub works to address the problem with the way eyecare is delivered, especially to underserved children.

SHE SAYS… “I have a mission and purpose that is stronger than the bottom line. I am an entrepreneur and not afraid of failure. I love to create, do things differently and have a passion for people. I excel by fueling that nut daily and hope I can be the largest player in the optical industry too.”

CLIFTON, N.J., April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Please watch us LIVE, UNEDITED and UNFILTERED to see why we call it Magical Chaos!

At first, you will see a beautiful community, educatorsand families coming together, laughing, enjoying eye exams, freedom, safety, food, and beautiful faces with beautifully designed eyewear and, finally, all walking out with their eyewear and being able to see a beautiful day, every day!

What you won’t see in this video is the three women who have blood behind their eyes because of domestic physical abuse. You won’t see the two children who have endured abuse. You won’t see the two children who are legally blind. We saw these people, through their eyes. They came to us at our community events and we were able to treat them, and in some cases correct their vision. They would never have been allowed to be seen by an eye care professional because the abuser would not have allowed it.  But because we held an event in the child’s school, they had access to high-quality care.

You won’t see the child who walked around for four years with a lens he found and carried, using it when he needed to see in his right eye because his family could not afford to get him an eye exam and glasses.  You won’t see the father that cried with joy because we supplied his whole family with eye exams and glasses he couldn’t pay for because he can’t get a job because he is ill.  You won’t see the 20 children that say they want to work for the Optical Academy when they grow up because we are nice.  You won’t see the families that have become friends and look to us for more than just eye care. There are many many things you won’t see in our Magical Chaos, but we do! We see it, we examine it, and we treat it, right ON-SITE!

Optical Academy has the humble opportunity to help a community in one day. We see and treat what most eye care professionals do not see in their whole career!  We will see the community that will never step a foot into a private practice for MANY reasons! Do you want to know why? Because they feel they cannot communicate, whether because of a language barrier, trauma, lack of money, not knowing where to go or what to say, or simply that they have no time.

THIS IS WHY WE WILL NOT STOP DELIVERING ON-SITE EYECARE AND EYEWEAR IN THE PLACES OUR COMMUNITY NEED IT MOST, WHERE THEY CAN FEEL SAFE AND CAREDFOR!

“WE MET, RUBBED SHOULDERS AND PROVIDED A SAFE HAVEN FOR A VARIETY OF FAMILIES. OVER 80% OF THE PEOPLEWE EXAMINED NEEDED EYEWEAR… THATS AWESOME!!! IMAGINE THAT COMMUNITY WITHOUT OPTICAL ACADEMY, BECAUSE I CAN’T. IT MAY SEEM RAW BUT THATS HOW ITS HANDED TO US AND THATS HOW WE HANDLE WHAT WE DO ON A DAY IN AND DAY OUT BASIS. YOU PUT ALL YOUR PROBLEMS ASIDE WHEN YOU SEE AN URGENCY UNFOLD RIGHT IN FRONT YOU. I HAD THE PRIVLEDGE OF WORKING AND ASSISTING IN COORDINATING THIS EVENT AND NEVER IN MANY YEARS OF WORKING MANY PLACES HAVE I BEEN ABLE TO SEE THE FRUITS OF MY LABOR RESULT IN SUCH A POSTIVE OUTCOME AND EFFECT SO MANY FAMILIES. I CAN’T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN!” – DEMETRIUS DIAZ EVENT COORDINATOR

Optical Academy proudly signs a contract with the NYC Dept. of Education and the Dept. of Health to provide On-Site Eye Exams and Eyewear in the NYC Public Schools

NEW YORK, March 18, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Optical Academy proudly signs a contract with the NYC Dept. of Education and the Dept. of Health to provide On-Site Eye Exams and Eyewear in the NYC Public Schools

Optical Academy’s founder, Abby Ayoub could not have been more ecstatic! It was where Optical Academy started in 2010 serving District 75 and its most fragile students.  Not to mention Abby Ayoub has attended NYC public schools for all her academic years. If you knew her, you would know she is a true New Yorker in every way. Abby has served on the Better Vision Institute Advisory Council and The Children’s Vision Task Force for The Vision Council of America and is equipped and ready to change the delivery of Eye care and Eyewear and bring it to the School-Site and Work-Site!

Optical Academy provides On-Site Eye Exams, Eyewear, and Lab at the School-Sites, Work-Sites and Community! Students are NOT only screened they receive a full comprehensive eye exam! If they need any corrective eyewear there is a digital lab right On-Site! The student will receive the glasses immediately, right at the comfort of their school after their eye exam! Optical Academy is not a mobile bus that takes children out of their comfort zone, to put them in an unfamiliar vehicle or take them out in the cold and rain! Optical Academy use their vehicles to transport the equipment and vision team, not service children in them.  Optical Academy will unload and set up a full Optical Shop in the comfort of a gym, cafeteria, break room, classroom or even a hallway! Optical Academy sets up the latest and greatest state of the art digital equipment which also accommodates clients who are non-verbal or who have language barriers.  You don’t have to say a word! Optical Academy can provide everything On-Site and is equipped to service all, From Students to Staff.

Over 70% of children who fail screenings never get seen! That’s alarming! How can a child possibly learn if they are not equipped to see! They will shy away, disconnect and become disinterested in the learning process! And that affects us a whole! Both our community and society.

Optical Academy serves as a full vision team with licensed eye care professionals who come to you! All the rules that apply in a private practice will apply except, no hours of waiting, no travel time, no more taking a day off, no dinosaur aged equipment, and most importantly no OUTRAGEOUS retail fees!

Optical Academy cannot be prouder because it is reaching its most challenging clients at a school level!  Optical Academy whom primarily serves students and staff has been able to successfully serve NJEA, the LARGEST educator union in the country, and the NYC DOE/DOH, the LARGEST Department of Education in the country.  If Optical Academy can serve the Largest educator union and Dept. of Ed in the country, it can certainly serve anyone on-site.

More about Inc. and the Inc. 500|5000

Methodology

The 2015 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2011 to 2014. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2011.
